Well, I did it. I completed my first week back to work. The first day was like a half day because I didn't get on the phone until 3:30pm. The first part of the day I did compliance courses that are required every year. Then I went through over 600 emails. I also had to learn how to operate the new system. We are now operating in the "Cloud" whatever the hell that means. Once I got the hang of it, I have to admit it is easier to use. It no longer takes me 25 minutes to sign in in the morning. It takes about 5-10 minutes.
There's good news about my job besides the new system. I am back to being a level 1 associate. It seems I never got to be promoted to level 2. I am still listed as an Associate Customer Advocate, and still getting paid as such. Therefore, that is the job I am doing. I no longer wish to be a level 2. I don't need the headaches or the aggravation. I transfer anything not in the level 1 wheelhouse even though I may know how to do it.
I still don't like this job. I don't want to do it anymore. I want another job. I still want to pay claims. I would be perfectly happy paying claims all day. But, I don't think that's going to happen at this company. I've been looking for other jobs, but so far nothing has panned out. I've decided not to apply to anymore vet hospitals. I don't want to do that either. In fact, I've been thinking of a new type of job.
I was sitting at my desk one day and I started thinking of what I really like to do. Well, I like to write, but I don't want to do that for a living. The other thing I really like to do is clean. I thought to myself, I could clean for a living. Then I suddenly remembered that my mom used to clean houses for a while. I thought to myself, hey I could open my own cleaning business. I'm talking residential cleaning, like small houses and apartments. I'm not talking any heavy lifting or doing people's laundry etc., just general house cleaning.
I may see if I can get a job with an existing cleaning service to get my feet wet and find out how the business actually works. I started looking up what I need to do in order to make it happen. I'm hoping to have things off the ground in 2027, maybe in summer or fall. I have a lot of financial work to do first. I'll be playing catch-up on my bills for a while. But once that occurs, I'll be ready to get started.
In the meantime, working again is okay. It gives me something to do during the day. I'm thinking of changing my hours so I get off at 4:45 or 5:15 instead of working until 7:15. Of course, it means that I'd have to work 5 days a week, but I noticed that I'm really tired by 4 pm. I was struggling to keep my energy up. I left an hour early on Thursday. I needed to call it a week.
So, I guess you could say I'm no longer interested in a career. I'm interested in a job that will help me make ends meet. Plus, I've decided to do only what I'm paid to do. I'm no longer sacrificing myself for the sake of a company. I'm on the downslope of working. I want to have a life away from my desk. I'm downwardly mobile.
